A tsebrokhn harts / zolst shtarkn - original tkhines by Ariel Shapiro

A medley of two original tkhines performed by A Glezele Tey at Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity on March 23rd, 2025. Tkhines are everyday prayers written for and by women & gender non-conforming people, often in Yiddish, that were popular from the late 1600s to the early 1900s. Ariel adapted and set these tkhines to music as part of a cohort with Der Tkhines Proyekt in January 2024.

"I rewrote the words to express what I needed to pray for in these times of both immense grief and urgent calls to action. These songs are meant to be sung when you’re feeling stuck in the heartbreak and overwhelm of it all, when you need strength for the long journey ahead, as well as around kitchen tables, in the streets, and anywhere they can help tear down systems of injustice and occupation to build a freer world." -Ariel
